Watching, admiring, and studying all of the amazing fashion shows and even the street style at NYFW has had me feeling extremely inspired the past couple of weeks. Even though the shows are supposed to be for fall, luckily (well, I guess?) it’s still cold enough in upstate NY for me in to wear what I saw on the runway right now. One of my favorite shows I saw was Sally LaPointe’s Fall 2019 RTW. Her luxurious silky jumpsuits and scarves, head-to-toe leather, snakeskin, sequins, and fur accents just had me in an absolute dream! Also, you know all I am REVELING in the fact that the cabbie/newsboy hats will clearly still be in for next year, so my obsession will be able to continue on through 2019.
I pulled together today’s outfit after finding this gorgeous vintage chocolate brown faux fur bomber jacket at my local thrift shop. If you saw my Instagram story the other day, you know I saw it there and actually left the store without buying it, but then I was panicking as soon as I left the parking lot that someone else would take it so I had to go back for it right away (typical Emma things). I don’t regret going back for it at all, it’s just an absolutely gorgeous piece and it’s so so warm and cozy! I especially love the knit details on it and its oversized look which makes it a little more casual.
While this outfit was heavily inspired by the Sally Lapointe show with the head-to-toe leather and turtleneck look, I also pulled in some other accents that I think will also be super trendy in 2019. Yes, I think belt bags will keep on rockin’ through the year, which I noticed in both the Zimmerman Fall RTW and Fendi Spring RTW 2019 shows. I’ve also been seeing lots of 2000’s inspiration especially in street style lately, such as the layered clips I’m wearing in my hair.
It was so much fun to get together with the fabulous Chloe Aviza (here’s her Instagram and Website) and shoot these outfit photos, she did such an amazing job and I’m in love with how they turned out! Scroll down to see the rest of the shots and my outfit details.

A few days ago I took a short trip to New York City. After walking around all the shops in Soho all day, I was sooo inspired by all the new spring trends I noticed in the stores and people wearing on the streets. Here’s a list of 10 of my favorite trends and where to find them!
1. Wicker/Straw Basket Bags
I just want to take one of these on a picnic! They’re so freakin’ cute. I’m not kidding when I say I saw these in literally every store in NYC, they’re going to be so huge for spring! I love how there’s so many different shapes and styles of them to pick from. I also noticed a ton of straw hats like floppy hats and visors in the stores too! This is also the perfect trend to try to look for in thrift/vintage shops, I see them there a lot!
Free People – I love the oval shape & clasp on this one! Forever 21 – The perfect small & affordable option, if you’re iffy about this trend and don’t want to invest too much in it, this style is great for you! Topshop – This one is literally just like a lil basket! So cute. Urban Outfitters – The large tote size and circular shape of this one is awesome! So perfect for the beach.
2.Wide Leg Jeans/ Bell Bottoms
The whole time I was in the city, the one thing I was determined to buy was a pair of HUGE bell bottoms! Just when I was about to give up, I found the perfect pair at Urban Outfitters and I’m in LOVE with them. They’re a little out there, but that’s my style of course. If you want to try out this trend but do something a little more wearable, you can try wide leg jeans, more subtle flares, or a little kick flare! You can find these jeans just about anywhere, but here’s a few places I saw them.
Urban Outfitters – These are the jeans I ended up getting! They’re super dramatic but they’re so much fun. Totally my new favorite piece of clothing! Forever 21 – These ones are also a little more out there, but I think they’re super cute and casual and an easy way to spice up a normal outfit with a tshirt! Free People – By far I saw the most flare/ wide leg styles at Free People. These ones are your classic low-rise flare jeans. I saw a ton of people just walking around the streets wearing this style of jeans! Topshop – Cropped kick flares are also super on-trend right now. They’re a little more wearable than huge flares so they’re a perfect option for anyone!
3. Dark Denim with Contrast Stitching I love how versatile this trend is! I saw dark denim with contrast stitching on all kinds of clothing pieces, from jackets to jeans to dresses. With the super dark denim, it’s easy to either dress it up or down depending on the occasion!
Urban Outfitters – This jacket is a subtle way to integrate this trend into your wardrobe! This is a much cleaner look than the typical lighter-washed, distressed denim jackets that most people are wearing now. I also feel like my Barbie owned this at some point in the 90’s and I’m here for it. Dolls Kill – The cool thing about this trend is it can easily be dressed up or down! I came across this bustier style dress on Dolls Kill and I’m OBSESSED! The white stitching is such a cool and flattering detail. Forever 21 – If you dig the cargo pants trend and want to mix it in with contrast stitching, these Dickies pants are pretty sick! These are definitely a statement piece. Topshop – This skirt is so cute with the belt on it! This is a great piece to wear casually with a white top, or you could find a matching top to make it a dressier set.
4. Boiler Suits This trend definitely is NOT for everyone (I honestly don’t even know if I could pull it off for everyday) but I think it’s really unique and fun! I’ve seen some girls wearing these on Instagram and they’re an amazing look, especially for a photoshoot or something more dramatic like that! But you know if I could pull off wearing this to class, I would. If I find an affordable one somewhere, then maybe I’ll do it, who knows.
I.Am.Gia – I saw a girl wearing this on Instagram and I became seriously obsessed! I love the all-red look, I would loooove to own this unique piece! ASOS – If you can rock this without looking ridiculous, mad props. I feel like it needs a good belt to go with it though! Urban Outfitters – I guess this all-denim look could be the most wearable way to try out this trend? The Vintage Twin – This is a shop in Soho that I saw a TON of vintage boiler suits at (although I can’t find any online)! Some of them were super cool because they were like actual work suits that I assume utility crews wore working for airlines, etc. They often had an airline logo embroidered on the back and a name on the front, so that was a really interesting detail. I feel like you could definitely find one of these at a thrift shop if you look hard enough!
5. Berets & Cabbie/Lieutenant Hats If you follow my Instagram, you know I looove wearing my black cabbie hat with literally every single outfit (I got mine on sale at H&M for $5 but I don’t think they have it anymore, this one’s similar)! I think cabbie/lieutenant/baker boy hats (there’s like 20 names for them) and berets are a super easy way to dress up anything and make yourself look more put together. You can get them in black to go with everything, or in brighter colors or different fabrics like suede, corduroy, or leather as a fun accent!
Free People – I saw this hat in the store and fell in love with it! I love the embroidered ribbon around it with the twisted cord detail and the corduroy fabric. It’s also called the ‘Albany’ style which is where I live, so I think it’s meant to be. If you’re looking for a good quality hat in this style, I would definitely go check out Free People because they have so many of them in different materials and colors! Topshop – I think a denim hat with a vintage tee would be so so cute!
Berets – You can find these literally anywhere for cheap right now– Forever 21, H&M, Amazon, Urban, FP, etc! I love them in different colors like red or lavender to add a pop to an outfit.
6. Trench Coats You really can’t go wrong with a classic trench coat for spring. My favorite version of this trend is actually wearing one as a dress!
ASOS – They have soooo many good ones here I just linked the whole page!
Long Trench layered with a hoodie – I think this is the best example of how you can dress a trench coat down and dress a hoodie up! It’s a super easy and casual look to throw a longline trench coat over a hoodie, but it still looks really put together when you’re just running around to the store or to class. I love the monochrome style of this outfit with all the light neutrals. Vinyl Trench – Also from ASOS, this vinyl look is another huge trend right now! I think this is a more fancy/dressy way to wear a trench and the material adds a lot of interest to a normal style.
7. Belt Bags/ Fanny Packs I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect belt bag forever! I know they might seem kind of silly or weird, I think they’re actually super practical and cool for street style. I love how you can easily wear them either on your waist or over your shoulder across your chest.
Gucci – This is the classic belt bag that got me obsessed with this trend. I love everything about these… I’ve been looking for a good vintage one forever! I especially like how the style is more flat so it doesn’t stick out from your body too much, giving it a lower profile and less of a nerdy “fanny pack” vibe.
Quilted – I love how the Chanel bag that Kendall Jenner is wearing here is an actual belt! I think this style is super cute. You can easily find tons of dupes for the smaller quilted belt bags like this one from Steve Madden.
Classic Fanny Pack – This is a good example of how you can wear the more bulky fanny pack style! I love the idea of throwing it over your shoulder so it lies on your chest like this. I think it looks super cool and it also is way more practical than carrying around a purse, especially if you’re doing something like shopping where you’d like to be hands-free.
8. Cargo & Army pants This is another one of those trends that definitely isn’t for everyone– cargo/army style pants. Everywhere I went I saw pants like this. Sometimes the trend was toned down a little, like skinny jeans with camo print or more classic pants with the big cargo style pockets on the side, but I also saw a ton of the full-on huge vintage camo print pants as well!
Zumiez – These ones are actually a really great and relatively affordable find, if I was gonna get on this trend (who knows maybe I will) I would definitely buy these ones! They are that classic oversized vintage style and they come in all different colors, including the classic green camo! I.Am.Gia – This photo is a good example of how you can wear pants like this! They’re super easy to pair with some sneakers and a tee for a casual look or with a crop top and heeled booties for a more dressed-up look. I’m in love with these red ones from I.Am.Gia! Urban Outfitters – This is a more simple way to integrate this look into your wardrobe, with a classic pair of cargo pants!
9. Neckerchiefs/Silk Scarves I’ve been wearing neckerchiefs for years now, but this is a trend I’ve seen become increasingly popular lately! I highly recommend investing in a little silk scarf to add a pop to your outfits because they’re really versatile and can be worn in so many ways! I love looking for unique ones at flea markets/ thrift/ vintage shops.
Bandannas – Chances are you already have one of these lying around your house, and if not you can go pick one up at Walmart or the craft store for like a dollar each! Wearing these around your neck is a super cute touch to any outfit, I love throwing one on when I’m just wearing a hoodie or t-shirt to add something to my look! Forever 21 – Since this trend is becoming so much more popular now, you can easily find tons of these little silk scarves at places like Forever 21! Look for ones in trendy patterns like stripes or polka dots or unique colors! You can look for smaller ones for a more subtle look, or fold up a bigger style and let the ends hang down.
Silk Scarf in Hair – I think this is a super cute look! I saw a bunch of silk scrunchies at Free People but you could also easily use any vintage scarf or one you find at a store and wrap it around your pony, bun, or wear it as a headband.
10. Chunky Dad Sneakers Ya’ll know I had to save the best for last! I alwaysss joke about this trend on my Twitter/Snapchat and threaten my friends that I’m going to buy a pair of super chunky dad sneakers (will I actually do it??? stay tuned). Even though everyone seems to hate on me for them, there’s no doubt these sneakers are a huge trend right now and people are definitely wearing them, so much that even Skechers are making a comeback!
Chanel – Not that I can afford them, but if I had to get a pair of these sneakers and my wallet supported it, I would definitely get these ones. I like how they have a more slim look, but I’m sure it would be easy to find knockoffs of this style at places like H&M or Zara. Skechers – Now I did some research, and it looks to me like the Skechers that all the cool kids are wearing are the D’Lites style, which comes in all sorts of colors but if you’re gonna buy them I think you need to go for the full-on all white Dad style. The fact that these are selling for $65 is literally insane to me when people wouldn’t touch them with a ten foot pole a year ago, but I’m proud of Skechers for making a comeback. I think my mom might have an old pair of these lying around somewhere though so I might go searching for them and if I find them I promise you’ll catch me wearing them. Pair them with jeans and I’m set! Balenciaga – This is the exact pair that made this trend huge! These ones are pretty cool but of course their price tag is not, plus it seems like they’re sold out everywhere! I do like how this girl paired them with a dress and leather jacket for a more dressy look!
Thank you guys so much for reading! I put a TON of work into this blog post (not kidding, it almost took me two full days) so please give me some love and share it/let me know what you think! I was thinking of doing a thrifting spring trends post, spring outfit ideas, or a fishnets lookbook next– let me know what you want to see!
HI EVERYONE!!! Here I finally am with a new blog post for you. Summer was a whirlwind of fun (and work), but it went by way too fast and I never got myself out to take photos for a blog post… for some reason being back at school makes me more inspired to wear cute outfits and put together lookbooks to take pictures of. Or maybe that’s just because I’m actually forced to get dressed and look presentable to see my fellow student population every day– well, most days… even I’m guilty of looking homeless sometimes.
It’s actually so crazy to look at my last blog post (that was in February? Embarrassing…) and think about how much I’ve changed even since then. My life is totally different, my fashion sense, everything. I like to think I’m even a better writer now (hopefully that English degree is paying off). I love to see myself growing as a person and hopefully you people who have read my blog since the beginning– that was a year ago by the way– love seeing it too!
I’ve noticed that I’ve gotten a LOT more daring with my fashion recently, which definitely results in some stares when you go to a college where practically everyone wears athletic clothes all the time. Lately, I’ve been super into an obnoxious shade of red, which I’ve learned will definitely get you some head-turns in the dining hall. Everything I’ve been buying is this bright red color, like my new Michael Kors wallet I got for my birthday and the pants I wore in this post. I went out to my favorite photoshoot location (River Street in Troy) and put together a couple fun, street-style outfits for you to show you how I integrate pops of red into everyday outfits. I can’t wait to get back to doing more shoots and even more artistic concepts for my upcoming blog posts… I have a whole list of ideas already!
The amazing culotte pants that I’m wearing for this outfit are from Copper Fox Boutique (@copperfoxshop_troy on Instagram) in Troy. Since they had a half off rack last week, I got them for a great deal for only $25. Copper Fox has been one of my all-time favorite shops since it opened about a year ago, with super adorable unique clothing and a fun bohemian vibe. It’s one of my favorite best-kept Troy secrets. These pants are also super comfy with a lightweight material and elastic waistband, I couldn’t pass them up.
My top is a super simple striped crop top from Forever 21 that I’ve had for a couple of years, but I’m sure there’s tons of similar ones all over the place. When you’re wearing a statement piece like these pants, it’s best to keep everything else super simple and neutral. I like pairing black & white with red the best, and the pattern on the top really helps to break everything up with the huge solid block of red in the pants. If I’m wearing flowy pants like this, I always like to wear a tight, short shirt on top to balance it out so I don’t look too frumpy.
For my shoes, I also got these for a great deal (like 10 bucks, literally) on the clearance rack at Target this summer. They match the pants so perfectly I couldn’t help but wear them together. I’ve been super into the espadrille style all summer, so I wanted to put them to good use before it gets too cold out! They’re all sold out now, but these wedges from Target are very similar if you want the same kind of look.
By the way, if you’ve never been to the River Street Beat Shop, I highly recommend. 10/10 super cool record shop and photo shoot location.
My next outfit is something I actually wore to class the other day and just threw back on again to put into this lookbook. I’ve been loving a more streetwear-inspired look lately, and this outfit definitely shows that. I mixed together some more casual and edgy aspects to achieve the perfect balance. The faux leather jacket I’m wearing is a must-have from Forever 21, I got it about a year ago but they definitely still have tons of similar, well-priced ones there right now.
My super comfy black harem pants from H&M are one of my new favorite wardrobe staples, another great deal I got for only $17.99 (it looks like they’re sold out online, but they definitely still have them at my local store in Crossgates). I kept the comfy look going with my favorite pair of black high-top Vans — mine are the Slim style because I like the lower profile. I highly recommend investing in either a pair of black Vans or Converse (I have both) since I wear mine to death.
My pop of red comes from my tube top, which I actually DIY’d by cutting the top off of a red spaghetti-strap tank top from the kid’s section of Walmart. I mean, you’d never know right…? Works for me.
I pulled the red together even more with my red lips and topped it off with my favorite pair of silver hoop earrings (I’m telling you, hoops are back in action). When I’m wearing a busy outfit like this one, I always like to throw my hair into a top knot bun to keep it out of the way. Plus, it works really well when I hopped out of shower 10 minutes before class so I don’t have to use a hairdryer.
My last outfit features some of my favorite vintage clothes that I got at the Troy Flea Market (I swear I don’t get everything I own in Troy, I don’t know what’s wrong with me). I got these amazing vintage Levi jeans from La Relance Clothing (@la_relance on Instagram). They fit me like they were made for me and my friends make fun of me for wearing them too much. My scarf is vintage 13 Rue Cambon Paris Chanel, which is one of my most prized possessions.
Since my shoes and the scarf coordinated together perfectly in bright red obnoxious harmony, I made sure once again to keep the rest of my outfit super neutral with the plain jeans, a simple black belt, and a white tank top from Forever 21.
If you know anything about me, you know I’m obsessed with acai bowls, specifically Liza’s (@lizasoftroy on Instagram). I would be lying if I didn’t say I didn’t frequent there at least once a week.
If you know me you also know I’m obsessed with Psychedellicatessen. I just got a tie-dye shirt there last week and I’m super excited about it.
Thank you to everyone who made it all the way through this lookbook and read all of my fun commentary. If you liked this post, please let me know and give me some luv! I’m so happy to be getting back to blogging again and I can’t wait for what I have in store.
